"Thank you for Ozzy's birthday card! He had a wonderful birthday!!!!"

October 5, 2006 -
"That is SO cute!!! We all gave him extra hugs and extra dog cookies (his favorite) yesterday for his birthday.
Ozzy is the best dog - I swear! He couldn't be more perfect and more huge for that matter! He is going to the vet next week and I will let you know how much he weighs - I'm certain that it is in the 90's at least!
He has a daily routine of wrestling with Zakk and it is so funny to watch - but he knows not to hurt Zakk - it is hilarious! And, he has grown quite protective I must say. Especially around me - I think it is because I have the greatest fear of strangers. So, I'm not allowed to take him on walks anymore - just the pet sitters! We've tested it - he only goes on alert when he is with me and we are around strangers or strange dogs. If he is around Jason or the pet sitter - he has no problem with anyone at all! So, he must sense my fear or anxiety and react to it. It is so wild! For an example: we had carpet cleaning men in our home and I was showing them what to clean and I had put Ozzy in his crate and he was going crazy barking and wanting to get those men! But I can bring a friend over to meet Ozzy and he is sweet as a teddy bear! We've analyzed and decided the difference is me and how I am behaving. ?? Have you noticed the same with your dogs? I think it is great (to an extent - ha ha) that he is just a psychic! But it makes us feel really secure to know that he won't hurt our friends, but strangers beware!
But, he goes to the dog park with the pet sitter and gets along with every dog and has never been aggressive to any of them. I also take him to Pappys Pet lodge every now and then for day care so he can play with other dogs - and he's always great! So, all the way around - he is an awesome dog.
Thanks so much! Bonnie"

"That is wild! Our dogs definitely "read" me. But, we don't have enough uninvited strangers around to really test them. And, we have them so "trained" to put on a good show for potential dobe owners that they just demand love from seems whoever walks in the door. But, I witness them out in the backyard and they go nuts when workers are on the other side. I honestly, I don't know what I would do without my dogs giving the feeling of protection. Rare ocassion the other night, I came home alone (almost never happens -- left kids with dad at soccer practice so I could come home and paint) and I practically ran to the back door to let the dogs in! Once they were in, I went back to being relaxed and went about my business without a second thought. But, before they were in, I was a little creeped out! That feeling probably comes indirectly from my husband. Everytime we sit down to watch a movie where something happens on the domestic home front, he says, "You know, none of this would have happened if they just had a Doberman." Ha! Ha! Oh well -- Thanks for emailing back. I am always curious how everything is going. I couldn't be more pleased with the owners of this litter. Thanks for providing him such a good home! All the best, Laura"

"Laura,
Just thought I'd send you a note to tell you that Ozzy is doing great! Last week, during his booster shot/check up with the vet - he weighed a little over 40 lbs. The vet didn't even recognize him since he had been in 2 weeks before. He said he almost gained a pound a day! But, he is doing great!
I think he is house trained now - he barks at me to let me know to take him out. He hasn't had an accident in over a week - so I think we are there.
I have also (very easily) taught him to do the following tricks and most were taught in about 5 minutes!
- Sit - Stay - Down (lay down) - Shake hands - Give a high five (he looks human when he does this) - Speak (he responds to one bark if I hold up one finger and two barks if I hold up 2 fingers) - Kisses - he licks your cheek - And, the latest: I tell him to "shut the door" and he shuts the door with his paw - he even checks to make sure it is shut all the way :)
He is SO CUTE!!!
And, easily the smartest dog we've all seen!
Thanks so much!!! Bonnie"

"Laura,
Just thought I would drop a quick note to let you know how Ozzy is doing and send some pics of him.
He has never once cried in his crate at night since we picked him up over a month ago....he loves his crate in fact! One day, he played so hard that he fell asleep on a couch, so I turned off the light and left him in there. About 10 minutes later, I told our daughter to go and look how cute he was and he was gone! We searched everywhere and no Ozzy...but then I looked in his crate and there he was!! Now, if he is out and gets tired, that is where he goes! I am so proud of him!
Housetraining is going good, although we are taking the pro-active approach, so I'm not sure if he knows for sure not to go in the house, but at least pretty much, if we take him out every 20 minutes of play time while he is out...there are no accidents - but in the crate he will go a longer time, of course!
He weighed 27 pounds as of last Monday and he got his rabies vaccination. I'm sure he weighs more now. He is done with his ear wrapping (I'm so glad!) because we were really tired of watching him scratch at the tape!
The pics I am sending were from last Monday (1-2-06).
Take care! Bonnie"
RESPONSE:
"Bonnie,
Thanks for being true to your word and not forgetting us! I went to your site and pulled some pictures off it. Your message didn't have any attached??
His ears look good. Glad to hear that the wrapping is over for you and him! Also, that is great about the crate training. It does become their area of comfort. Makes it nice!
Hope you all had a Happy New Year!
Take care, Laura"

"Hey Laura,
Just giving you an update! Ozzy is doing great! He is sleeping all night in his crate without a sound and has since he came home!! We didn't expect that at all. Although, Jason said last night he was growling in his sleep - too cute! But I am the one who has to get him up in the morning, so who knows how long he would be content in there!
He has had a couple of accidents in the house, but we knew that would happen. He does go in the grass, despite the frozen blades nowadays, but I don't think he has quite got that he is "not" to go in the house yet. I figure it would be at least a month before he gets that concept. His frequent urination, the vet said, was probably due to the meds he was on - and I think that crate training has helped him learn to hold it and not have to get rid of it as soon as he make a milliliter of urine! ha, ha!
I got his ears wrapped on Monday and the vet said he looked great. He goes in next Monday for a re-wrap and shots. He literally hates the tape on his ears though.
By the way, I did Ozzy his own page on my website
- it is pretty silly, but my friends / family enjoy seeing the updated pics. I will update pictures on there too. I've taken some of yours of Ozzy in the earlier weeks and Scarlet and Harley and put a link to your site- just let me know if that is not ok! :)
Also, I've already trained him "Ozzy come" and "sit". We have a routine where he comes and I turn around really quick and tell him to sit and he does it no matter where he is. He is very smart! I love to train dogs and he is going to be very easy, I can tell. Eventually, my goal is to teach him to pick up his toys...and I plan to do that within 6 months with him!
Thanks for everything, we really love him!
Take care, Bonnie"
RESPONSE:
"Wow! Sounds like everything is going great! I can't tell you how much I appreciate the updates. It is such a comforting feeling to know that he has gone into a home full of love. And, great site! That is fun! (Take whatever you want from our site, no problem!) Laura"

December 3, 2005 - Ozzy went home today to live in Addison with his new family Bonnie, Jason and their son Zach
Ozzy had his ears cropped on Nov. 28th (8 weeks old)
Since Pyro left, Ozzy has become our son's favorite pup
Pictures at 7 weeks old
Cleaning up after his messy littermates!
6 week old pictures (yes, those eyes are shut in picture below!)
5 weeks old
He's been one of the easiest to take a picture of.. each week!
4 weeks old
October 26, 2005 - This pup had visitors today! Bonnie, Jason and their 10 year old son from Addison, Texas, came out. There were 4 males for them to choose from and the decision was made almost immediately! I think Bonnie came out here already knowing which one she wanted (based off 3 week pictures). A fun experience! Oh, and his name is Ozzy!

RESPONSE:
"Thank you so much for keeping us updated! That is amazing! I can't believe what all you have taught him. Are you experienced in training dogs?
Wow! I am so glad everything is going well. And, I can't believe how much he is growing, rather the rate at which he is growing. He's going to be a big boy! Take care, Laura"
REPLY BACK:
"No experience - other than they call me the "dog whisperer" - ha, ha! I just have a knack for teaching tricks.
Potty training, on the other hand, I'm not so sure. As soon as I brag, he potties on the floor :) ha, ha! His communication with me about having to go changes (a bark, a nuzzle, a paw on my leg) and sometimes it is not at all? So, I'm sure it will come and I "think" he is there....but we'll see!!! About what age in months do they typically get house broken?
When I get a new video camera (mine broke recently), I'm going to put his tricks on his website. He is so cute when he does them! --Bon"
RESPONSE:
"That is awesome! My dogs just know how to read me .. they know when I am happy, upset, etc. So, although I have not trained for specific tricks, they are extremely intelligent in their ability to know what is expected from them.
As far as potty training, I think everyone that is staying in contact with me is reporting like you - trained for the most part, a few accidents but not many. We got Aggie when she was 12 weeks and I think it only took 4 weeks to completely potty train her. Scarlett is hard for me to compare to because she has been with us from day 1 of her life! I don't think I even remember how old she was once potty trained.
Can't wait for you to get the video up on your site of Ozzy doing his tricks. That is going to be fun to see!
Laura"

"Hey Laura, I forgot to ask one question. Ozzy, as of last night, started having loose stools - not really diarrhea, but they changed from what they were. Is this something that I should take him to the vet over or is this normal? He is done with his meds as of yesterday. I just read that Dobermans and Rottweilers are the 2 breeds that are most suseptible to Parvovirus so I'm freaking out a little. We have him on the Nutro Max large breed puppy. Thanks!" Bonnie
>>I called Bonnie immediately after receiving the above message to assure her that this was normal. Also, he was current on all his shots -- so, no sweat!
December 9, 2005 -
"Laura, Good news...Ozzy doesn't have diarrhea anymore....his poo seems to be morphing back to the darker brown and it is more solid. I'm like a new mother of an infant - freaking out over everything! Yes, if he sneezes, he's going to the vet :) ha, ha!
Thanks for comforting me in the hour that I was convinced he had parvo...sorry, I need to stay far away from the internet and diseases.
He is such a good dog!! Bonnie"
RESPONSE:
"Great news! I do love owners like you!" Laura

November 30, 2005 - "Hi Laura, I just thought I would check in to see how Ozzy did for his procedure on Monday? Thanks so much, we're very excited and can't WAIT to get him home! Bonnie"
|
November 15, 2005 - "Laura, We like the broader base and shorter style - Just like the picture here of the military, but a tad longer like Harleys. Maybe because Harley's was a side picture, it looked like the military one to us. What cut does he have? I did find this website too - this was the only one :) So, exactly what we want is a little longer version of the military / pet crop. Yes, the 28th and then we will come and pick him up Friday 12-2. Is the evening okay to pick him up? Thank you so much Laura, I can't WAIT to have Ozzy home!"
RESPONSE:
"Bonnie,
Ozzy did fine. His ears don't seem to bother him but he is a bit rambuncious (spelling?) right now. He doesn't like the extensive amount of crate time he is getting. I have him, Violet and Willow in the garage and in separate crates. When I can and throughout the day I am alternating one inside being held, one with free run of the garage area and one in the crate. This is allowing them some freedom but he always hates going back into his crate. Good note, he is not throwing quite the fit he was initially so maybe he will accept the crate well for you. I will be getting pictures of his new look up later." Laura
December 2, 2005 - "Just to let you know, Ozzy had his crown removed this morning. When you pick him up, nothing will be on his ears. They need to "air out" until Monday. If you don't mind driving to Frisco, three wraps are included with the cropping. The vet's number is 972-335-1234. Laura"
REPLY BACK:
"Thanks Laura! I made him an appointment for Monday. How long will he need to get his ears wrapped for? (I've never done this.) Bonnie"
RESPONSE:
"I think it is about 6 weeks .. but it has been close to three years since I did it with Scarlett, so don't quote me on that!"
|
November 11, 2005 - "Laura, Yes, we wanted the shorter cut and the best pic I can find on the internet is Harley. Is there another site that you know of to see different cuts? I think you said that it would be easier to stand up too, correct? We like the wider base, but shorter length. We will take the 28th and then pick him up on December 2nd - is that okay? Thank you so much for everything, he is truly adorable and we can't wait to make him part of our family!!! The pics are awesome, thanks so much for that, it made our day!" Bonnie
RESPONSE:
"Bonnie, I tried to look up some pictures for you. Here is the only link I could find that had all the crop types on one page:
http://www.dobermanclub.org/Buying_Puppy/ears.html
I am guessing you like the medium - please confirm! I will take Harley's picture in so the vet knows what you like. In fact, I just found out this weekend that our vet is Harley's vet so she will know just what to do!"
|
November 11, 2005 - "Bonnie, The sire has a shorter cut than Scarlett. If that is the look you want, I will take a picture of him in for the procedure. Why don't you spend some time on the internet and try some other pics of ears and email them to me. That way the vet can get a good idea of what you like. Got some new pics up on the site for you!" Take care, Laura
|
November 10, 2005 - "Laura, What type of cut does Ozzy's father have on his ears? That is what Jason and I have decided to do for him - whatever that length is. Has Ozzy developed any sort of personality yet? I'm so excited to see him! Thanks!"
|
November 9, 2005 - "OMG, Laura, if you only knew how BADLY I wished Ozzy was here already! ha, ha! I check your site about twice a day - waiting for pics! If you would not mind taking him to get his ears done, that would give me a lot of relief - at least mentally - because I'd feel a little guilty taking him home and then immediately to the vet to crop his ears - like "welcome home" Ozzy! But we do want it done... I think they look a tad funny without the ear cropping. We would like the shortest show cut - not the military - but the shortest show cut if that is possible. Yes, just adding it to his price would be fine. Do you have a date yet of when we can pick him up? I'm SO excited!!!! He is simply adorable!"
|
November 9, 2005 - "Bonnie, I hope the wait for Ozzy to come home is not killing you! By tomorrow I should have the 5 week pictures up on the site. Question for you - I forget if you wanted me to take him to the vet to get his ears done or if you wanted to handle that. If you want me to take him to our vet, the expense would just be added to the remaining amount due. I will be setting appointments for the pups ears tomorrow. Talk to you later!" Laura
|
October 22, 2005 - "We'd love to come and see them! We would like a black male if possible. We saw your web site and we appreciate what kind of breeder you are and are very interested. When would these puppies be ready? Thanks so much!" Bonnie
Bonnie, "Received your application for the puppy. Are you looking for a male or female? We would love to have you come out to see pups and let us meet you. Let me know what questions you have and please spend some time on our Web site to get a good idea what kind of breeder we are." Laura
