April 3, 2007 - "Hi Laura, Thanks for the birthday wishes for Betty. It's hard to believe a year has gone by already! Betty has grown into such a beautiful dog. We're so happy to have her. I made a little cupcake out of some doggie cookies topped with whipped cottage cheese to look like frosting for her birthday. I thought I'd share a few pictures with you. Jeannie & Craig"
RESPONSE: "Ha, ha, ha!! I LOVE IT!!! That is so incredibly CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a great idea with the cupcake. Looks like she loved it! You all are awesome! --Laura"

March 16, 2007 - Here is a referral letter written by Craig upon request from an interested, potential owner to Scarlett's third litter:
"Hi Jeff, I got Betty almost a year ago from the Garretts. She is wonderful! Betty and my 9 year old daughter are best friends. Betty also likes to play with all the other little neighborhood kids. She has a great temperament. She even plays pretty good with our cat, although she can get kinda rough sometimes. I don't think she knows how strong she is. If you want a Doberman, I recommend the Garretts. Craig & Betty"

"Hi Laura,
I just wanted to send you some more images of Betty.
She likes the water, especially when its hot out. She is just not to crazy about waves.
We have a lot of fun together. She likes to chase me on my bike. I try to run her twice a day. Boy, that dog can run.

"Hi Laura, Just thought I'd share a few pics with you. Betty had her first bath with us last night. She did pretty well though she looked miserable...but still adorable.
By the way, any tips on biting or nipping? That's really the only issue we're having. I understand she's teething, but this seems a little different from the need to chew on things. She does try to do that with us too, but the bigger problem is random biting or chasing after us and jumping and biting our legs. It seems mostly to be a game with her when we're outside, but she will do it inside, too. Craig and I have an easier time with it, but with her growing so fast, it's much harder for his daughter, and will be with me too fairly soon since I'm not so tall either. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!!! Jeannie & Craig" REPLY BACK: "Awesome pics! As hard as it is going to be, you have to discipline. Especially if she is becoming too much for Ocean to handle. I like to use force in a way that causes no pain. Dobes don't like to be pinned down. But, they totally respect you when you do. My husband told Craig how to wrap your hands around her snout, making her be still while you hold for a minute or two. This is a useful technique. And, while doing it, calmly talk to her in a very monotone, serious voice saying stuff like no and whatever it is she is doing that is unacceptable. You can also pin her to the ground, again in a way that does not hurt her but makes her understand YOU'RE THE BOSS! Pups get real rambuncious at this age. You have to establish some rules and boundaries now so that she understands how it is going to be. She is still a cute pup but you have to remind yourself to overlook that and demand she behaves. No different than dealing with children, really, just that as she learns what you expect, she'll stick with it and not test you, over and over and over - LOL!!! Hope that helps! Thanks again for the pics! Laura"

"Hi Laura, Betty is doing great. She has definitely grown out of any of the timidness that we were a little worried about at the beginning. She's a full fledged, we've got our hands full puppy now. We've been so impressed that she seemed to have come home already potty trained. We've only had an accident or two in the house. She's bonded to each of us in different ways. Craig and Betty seem to like to lay and watch T.V. together. Ocean is her safe haven and car mate. And it seems that I'm the outdoor playmate. We like to play chase out int he yard. We've taken her everywhere we can with us to get her used to the car. She'll whine a little bit then fall asleep, usually in Ocean's lap. We get ooo's and awww's everywhere we go when she's with us, they all think she's the cutest thing...which she is. Our neighbor has an 18 month old German Short-haired Pointer, and we've had a few small play dates with her. Betty loves to watch her play, and we think it's going to be great for her to see how it's done. We're so happy to have her, it's just so much fun to see her run and play and sleep in those funny puppy positions. Oh, and she just can't get enough belly rubbing. That's her favorite by far. We've got some pictures that we haven't taken off the camera yet, but we will soon and I will make sure we send you a few. Jeannie"
RESPONSE:
"Jeannie, Thanks so much for getting back to me! I had no doubt that timid side she was showing you would disappear. It was so coincidental. I never witnessed it much. I really believe she was mad at me when you came to pick her up. Pups don't usually do that but I really think she was holding a grudge for giving her a shot moments before you got there! That is one mistake I won't make again! It sounds like you are all very happy. I am so pleased to hear how well things are working out. As for the potty training, that really happens on its own. The pups seemed to learn pretty quick that at night, they don't like their blanket messed on .. so they take it further out on the newspaper. And, in their main play area in the yard, and you know they have full run of the yard now, they find a few designated spots to do their business. It is really cool, I think! I look forward to any pictures you might send! Take care, Laura"

"Hi Laura,
I just thought I'd drop you a note and let you know how overly excited Craig, Ocean (his daughter), and I are about coming to pick up Betty tomorrow evening. We just can't wait to get her to her new home.
When Craig and I started looking into the possibility of getting a Dobe, the first web site he came across was yours. I had read somewhere to never just go with the first one you find, so I made him continue looking. Of course, I had not fully dove into your site to see just how much time and effort you put into it. Once I did, I was convinced that he had found a winner. We are thrilled to get one of Scarlett's babies; she is such a beautiful dog and is so incredibly well-mannered. It's proof-positive that we chose breeders who are in it for the love of the dogs.
I also want to thank you and your family for being so accommodating to let us come out to visit the puppies. I assure you that Betty will have a new home with endless love and lots of attention. We're looking forward to bringing her with us to Florida this summer and taking her to the beach. I'm sure we'll have plenty cute pictures to share.
Thanks again, Jeannie"

"Hi Laura,
Hope you made it through the storms okay last night. I was wondering if we could come up and take a look at the puppies sometime this weekend. My father is in town today from Phoenix. I thought it might be something fun to do. If your not busy, that is.
Thank you, Craig

"Hi Laura,
Is there anything else you need from us? We are going to name our little girl, Betty. And, we don't want to crop her ears.
Thank you, Craig"
RESPONSE:
"Craig,
Nothing else is needed until she is ready to go home, then balance will be due. You are welcome to come visit if you like. Good name .. I will get it on the site in a bit. If questions pop up, shoot them my way, or call!

"Craig,
Scarlett went into labor this afternoon and is still going strong. She had her fourth pup about 30 minutes ago - it was a red girl! (I am sitting in the laundry room with her right now, along with my laptop!)
Now that I know that I have a red girl for you, I need you to confirm that you want her. Do that via email or phone. You will then need to get your deposit money to me to hold your pick. I will try to get pictures up sometime tomorrow. Let me know if you have any questions!
Laura"

"Hi Laura,
Great news!
I am definitely confirming. Just let me know how you want to handle the deposit. We are so excited. My daughter has been waiting a long time. And not very partially, I might add. We look forward to seeing some images.
Thank you, Craig"

"Hi,
Just wanted to check on Scarlett. What are your plans for her second litter. Don't want to rush things, just looking foward to a puppy of or own.
Thank you, Craig"
RESPONSE:
"Craig,
Hope you had a Merrry Christmas! We plan to breed Scarlett the next time she goes into heat -- probably around 4 to 5 months from now. I will notify you as soon as she is bred and then when the pups are born letting you know if we have a red female.
In advance -- Happy New Year! Laura"

"Hi,
My name is Craig Rhodes. We spoke the other day about Scarlett's puppies. I was interested in a red female. I still am. But, we would like to wait for Scarlett's second litter.
The timing would be better for us. We would like to be first on the list for a red female from the next litter. When do you need a deposit?
Thank you, Craig"
RESPONSE:
"Craig, Thank you so much for getting back to me. I have you on our waiting list now. If you ever have any questions, let me know!
Best regards, Laura"
